By Patrick Patterson Oakland Raiders Examiner

The Oakland Raiders convincingly defeated the Chicago Bears 32-17 by outplaying them in all three phases of the game. The defense dominated for the second week in a row. The first team offense put in a strong performance, and the special teams contributed a touchdown and a safety.

Linebacker/defensive end Kamerion Wimbley sacked Jay Cutler four times in the first half. Stevie Brown would later pull in his second interception of the preseason. The Oakland Raiders first tream offense opened the game with an 81 yard drive for a touchdown. It was a rough opening to the drive with Robert Gallery being called for both a holding and false start penalties. A 24 yard screen pass to Michael Bush got them out of their hole. Jason Campbell was perfect on the drive hitting Bush on the screen, Zach Miller twice for 28 yards, Johnnie Lee Higgins for 18, and Louis Murphy for (look up). Campbell converted a quarterback sneak for the touchdown.

The Raiders defense picked up where they left off against the Cowboys. Tommy Kelly and Kamerion Wembley each recorded a sack of Jay Cutler. That forced the Bears to punt from their back end line. Following the return Bush carried them into field goal range setting up Janikowski's 45 yard field goal.

The Bears had a 12 yard run before the defense forced another punt. Campbell then moved the offense down the field in chunks with a 12 yard completion to Louis Murphy for a third down conversion and the second long screen of the game with a 49 yard rumble by Marcel Reece. Faced with th opportunity to add to their lead, Campbell made a bad throw under pressure that was intercepted. The defense followed that up with a breakdown that allowed Matt Forte to run for an 89 yard touchdown.

Following a 38 yard runback by Rock Cartwright and horsecollar tackle penalty, the Raiders offense went three and out. The Bears offense drove down into the Raiders' redzone, but a bad snap on a field goal attempt foiled the Bears scoring opportunity. The Raiders offense went three and out following the break they caught.

The Raiders defense forced a three and out punctuated by Wembley's second sack of Cutler. The offense came back to life with Campbell's mobiliity providing a much needed spark. He scrambled for a third down conversion and bought time in the pocket before hitting Louis Murphy for another first down. It led to a second Janikowski field goal.

The defense forced a three and out. The offense gave the ball back when Chris Morris in his first play after relieving an injured Samson Satele botched the shotgun snap, and the Bears recovered. The Bears took advantage of the miscue and converted a 4th and 7 into a touchdown. Jeremy Ware couldn't keep with Johnny Knox on the touchdown. The Bears converted on the 2 point conversion.

The Raiders offense had a three and out. The Bears closed the half trying to put together a last second drive. Kamerion Wembley picked up his third and forth sacks of the game as the teams went into the lockerroom with the Bears up by one.

The Raiders defense started the second half by forcing a three and out. The Raiders offense went three and out, Erik Pears false started on a third and one to move it back to a third and six. Swayze Waters's ensuing punt was muffed and after a scramble for the ball Mike Mitchell recovered it in the endzone for a touchdown.

The Raiders defense forced another thee and out. Jacoby Ford caught a third down pass from Kyle Boller to convert a first down. However. That would be the only one of the drive. The defense held the Bears to yet another three and out, with the offense starting near midfield following the punt. The Raiders took advantage of the field position and ran the ball down the Bears' throats. Boller capped the drive with a two yard QB plunge on a third and one.

After a Raider penalty on the ensuing kickoff allowed the Bears to start near midfield, they were able to move the ball and get a first and goal inside the Raiders five moving the ball with a couple of big passes. The Raiders defense was able to force the Bears to settle for a field goal.

The Raiders offense could not get anything going. On the following possession rookie defensive back Stevie Brown grabbed an interception and returned it 46 yards to the 9 yard-line. Colt Brennan got his first action as a Raider. He handed the ball off twice and was forced to scramble on third down. The Raiders had to settle for a Swayze Waters field goal.
